Saints QB carves up Giants

GRIN AND BEAR IT: Saints quarterback Drew Brees breaks into a grin as he talks to Giants quarterback Eli Manning after New Orleans completely dominated Big Blue last night in a 49-24 pasting. (Getty Images)

NEW ORLEANS — Drew Brees carved the Giants up as if they were red, white and blue turkeys. The Saints quarterback had plenty to be thankful for only four days after Thanksgiving: the New York Football Giants.

Breesy does it to the Giants again.

“I expect perfection,” Brees said. “I understand that’s impossible to achieve. Deep down, I know there’s some things I can do better.”

Two years ago against the Giants, he threw for 369 yards and four touchdowns in a 48-27 rout.

This time, Brees threw for 363 yards and four touchdowns with his first rushing TD in two years — an 8-yard romp on which he swerved past Deon Grant.

“Drew’s one of the best quarterbacks in this country,” Justin Tuck said.

Brees toyed with Big Blue, and dictated to the Giants defense at will.

“He knows most of the time where he wants to go with the football before the ball’s snapped,” Tuck said. “It’s tough to disguise him, because he figures out so fast what you’re doing, and then disguising, you kind of put yourself in bad situations. So you almost have to play somewhat vanilla coverages, which obviously puts the ball directly in his court to make plays.”

Brees drove the Saints 88 yards in 34 seconds before the half to make it a 21-3 New Orleans lead.

“I think we feel very comfortable and confident in the two-minute drill,” Brees said. “I think it does a lot for your psyche.”

Brees even unveiled a dunk attempt over the crossbar of the goal post after his rushing touchdown.

“I knew I was going to get some flak for that,” he said. “I deserve it. I can dunk it. Right as I went off one leg, I didn’t quite get the oomph I was hoping for, so it turned into a finger roll.”

Brees threw two TDs to Lance Moore and two to tight end Jimmy Graham.

“Drew Brees is the guy that makes us go,” Moore said. “As long as he is back there calling plays and making those throws, we have a chance.”
