Perry writes Penn St. victim

Tyler Perry has penned an open letter to one of the alleged victims in the Penn State molestation scandal.

The popular actor/producer/writer best known for his “Madea” films and TBS comedies including “Tyler Perry’s House of Payne,” got serious when addressing the then 11-year-old victim who spoke out against former Penn State defensive coordinator Jerry Sandusky, who’s been indicted on 40 counts of child molestation.

In the letter, published in Newsweek, Perry — who revealed in 2009 that he himself had been molested as a child — wrote, “I don’t know your name, but I know your face. I don’t know your journey, but I know where you are. I am your brother!”

Of his own childhood molestation experiences, Perry wrote, “I felt so powerless. I knew what was happening to me, but unlike you, I couldn’t speak about it, because no one saw me. I was invisible, and my voice was inaudible.”

Perry applauded the 11-year-old’s courage in speaking up and added that the victim had “nothing to be ashamed of.”

Perry wrapped up the letter by noting that if the victim has to testify in court, “know that there are millions of young boys and grown men who are standing with you — including me . . . Now fight on, my young friend, fight on! ”
