New in Vegas

Is 1OAK going to change Vegas or is Vegas going to change 1OAK? Well, the club’s opening at the Mirage on New Year’s Eve is hosted by Fergie, so judge for yourself. Seems about right in a city where Chris Brown is hosting at Pure, Will.i.am is DJing at Surrender and LMFAO is party rocking at Haze while Sam Nazarian’s opening his Hyde lounge at the Bellagio on the same night.

But two of the biggest Vegas NYE parties will be house parties. House music parties, that is: Swedish House Mafia’s Steve Angello, fresh off of SHM’s sold-out Madison Square Garden show, is at XS (one night after fellow SHM spinner Sebastian Ingrosso’s own XS appearance), and “America’s Best DJ” Kaskade is at Marquee.

Prefer an actual concert to a club party? Stevie Wonder’s performing at the Cosmopolitan and Guns N’ Roses, who will soon be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, is at the Hard Rock.

And if, on the next day, you find yourself all reflective as you make resolutions, wondering if you’ve been spending too much time gambling, partying and carousing, why not spend an evening with a man who spends much of his life dealing with such extreme emotions. Drake’s at the Hard Rock on Jan. 1, trying to make sense of it all, first at a concert at the Joint and then at a party at the Vanity nightclub. Even if you’re still hung over, you’ll probably want to have a drink.

OH JOYA

One night, one dinner, one gathering of chefs with more than 15 Michelin stars combined. That’s January 15 at Portugal’s International Gourmet Festival, hosted by the Vila Joya resort in Albufeira. The festival spans from January 12-22, with events featuring Massimo Bottura, Alain Passard and New York’s own Shaun Hergatt and April Bloomfield. But January 15 looks like the most stacked night. That’s when Vila Joya’s own two-Michelin-starred Dieter Koschina welcomes chefs from all over Europe (including the deliciously named Norbert Niederkofler and Jacob Jan Boerma, each with two Michelin stars of their own) into the kitchen. internationalgourmetfestival.com

THAT’S A WRAP

Tis the season for travel stress. It’s hard enough finding the perfect gift without worrying about the TSA unwrapping your present when you’re at the airport. Virgin Atlantic is trying to make things a bit easier by offering in-terminal gift-wrapping service at JFK on Dec. 21-23. $2 per package, with proceeds benefiting the Virgin Unite nonprofit foundation.
