Adele named Billboard’s Top Artist of 2011

Adele was named Billboard magazine’s Top Artist of 2011 Friday, making history by becoming the first woman to ever nab three major chart honors in one year.

The British soul singer’s sophomore album “21” was also the No. 1 Billboard 200 Album and her hit single “Rolling in the Deep” was named the No. 1 Hot 100 song.

Her hit song beat out club favorite “Party Rock Anthem” by LMFAO and Katy Perry’s “Firework.”

The 23-year-old, who is recovering from surgery on her vocal chord, has nabbed three Grammy nominations this year.

This marks the third year in a row females have taken top Billboard honors, with Lady Gaga grabbing Top Pop Artist of 2010 and Taylor Swift taking the honor in 2009.
