CHSAA/Private boys basketball roundup: Fordham Prep picks up win in Buffalo

Fordham Prep bounced back for a big win in Buffalo.

Connor Murphy had 13 points and Sean McNamara had eight points to lead Fordham to a 38-35 win over McQuaid in the Tom Keenan Memorial Tournament boys basketball event on Saturday.

The Rams fell to host Canisius, 71-36, on Friday. They are playing without three injured starters: Jack Becker, Patrick Quirke and Killian Connelly. Fordham Prep coach Kevin Pigott hopes to have them back by Christmas.

UPSTATE/DOWNSTATE CHALLENGE

Mount St. Michael 67, Baldwin (L.I.) 46: Anthony Maestre had 22 points and Ed Correa notched 15 points to lead Mount (4-0). Malik Gill had 12 points and Omari Manhertz had eight points, 14 rebounds and four blocked shots.

“He was unbelievable,” coach Tom Fraher said of Manhertz. “He played great.”

Maestre drained a 3-pointer with five minutes left to put Mount up 51-44 in what was a close game at that point. The Mountaineers play Harborfields (L.I.) on Tuesday.

NON-LEAGUE

Cardinal Spellman 68, Scanlan 36: Matt Kerrigan had 19 points and Anthony Williams followed with 14 points for Spellman (2-1). Scanlan is 0-3.

Sacred Heart 52, Rye 44: B.J. White had 15 points and Myck Coleman added 12 points for Sacred Heart (1-1) on Friday. Max Twyman dropped 21 points for Rye.

BROTHER ARNOLD TOURNAMENT

Kellenberg 88, St. John the Baptist 60: Kevin Bowles had 28 points, Jeremy Arthur had 18 points and Kevin Liddy added 11 for Kellenberg (4-0) in the semifinals. Timmy Rowland had 26 points for St. John the Baptist (2-3).

PRIVATE

Columbia Prep 91, Clark Academy 37: Brian Lissak scored 27 points, Tonio Vassilaros had 18 points and 14 rebounds and Don Peebles scored 10 points for Columbia Prep (5-1) in non-league.
