Black baby doll found hanging in noose in Park Dept. Bx. headquarters

A black baby doll was found hanging by a metal-chain noose in the Park Department’s Bronx headquarters today, police said.

A park employee, 60, discovered the doll in the headquarters’ garage on Bronx River Parkway near Bronx Park East, around 8 a.m. Police are investigating the incident as a hate crime.

An angry NYC Parks and Recreation Commissioner Adrien Benepe said the department is working with the NYPD to find the person responsible.

“The Parks Department does not tolerate hateful acts such as this or any form of discrimination,” he said.

“This is totally unacceptable,” said Geoffrey Croft, of the watchdog group NYC Parks Advocate. “The Parks Department must have a zero tolerance policy toward this type of hateful behavior.”

No arrests have been made.
