A heartless Grinch stole Christmas from an under-privileged Long Island family, ripping off several high-tech gadgets and trashing their house, cops said today.
Cheri Sabolenko, 40, took her 12-year-old daughter to a hotel on Saturday to celebrate the child’s birthday before they came home Sunday to find someone had broken into their Habitat for Humanity -built home in North Bellport, cops said.
The family lost gifts valued at $5,000, including four flat-screen TVs, two laptop computers and video game systems, officials said.
The intruders punctuated the theft by senselessly vandalizing the kitchen.
“They put a stopper in the kitchen sink and caused a flood,” said Suffolk police Sgt.-Det. Alan Feinstein.
Anyone who has information about the theft is asked to call Crime Stoppers at (800) 220-TIPS.
