Generosity overflows

The holiday season has brought out the best in New Yorkers, who have opened their wallets to help the daughters of murdered NYPD hero Peter Figoski.

Donations to the Peter Figoski Scholarship Fund — launched last week by the New York Post and the New York City Police Foundation — have reached $843,975.

“Of all the many New York stories that break your heart, this has to be the worst,” Regis Philbin said after making a contribution. “A cop shot and killed in a matter of seconds by an ex-convict released by a careless judge, and leaving four daughters fatherless and heartbroken. It doesn’t get worse than that.”

Figoski, 47, is survived by daughters Christine, 19, a SUNY Oneonta undergrad; Caitlyn, 18, a SUNY Plattsburgh undergrad; and Caroline, 16, and Corrine, 14, high-school students in West Babylon, LI.

Security consultant Bo Dietl delivered $55,100 in checks yesterday — from donor s including Don Imus and Bill O’Reilly.

“The 75th Precinct [in Brooklyn] is the place that I retired from in 1985, and for which I still have a tremendous affinity for,” Dietl said.

Donations to the Peter Figoski Scholarship Fund are tax-deductible and can be made by mailing checks to the charity’s addresses. Credit- and debit-card donations can be made at http://www.nycpolicefoundation.org.

Both mail and online donations should be clearly marked for the Peter Figoski Scholarship Fund.
