Boys basketball holiday roundup: Lincoln falls to Mater Dei in MaxPreps final

A slow start cost Lincoln a shot at a statement victory and holiday tournament title. The Railsplitters were outscored by 11 points in the opening quarter and fell to California powerhouse Mater Dei, 76-69, in the MaxPreps Holiday Classic Invitational Division championship game in Palm Springs, Calif.

Shaquille Davis led previously undefeated Lincoln (9-1) with 17 points, Isaiah Whitehead had 12 and Tafari Whittingham 11. For Mater Dei, ranked sixth in the country by USA Today, UNLV-bound Kaitlin Reinhardt scored 20 points and Stanley Johnson had 18.

Garner (N.C.) 75, St. Raymond 63: Kerwin Okoro scored 20 points and Larry Graves added 18 for St. Raymond (7-4), which was without Temple-bound star Daniel Dingle (shoulder) in the HighSchoolOT.com Holiday Invitational American Airlines Bracket championship game in Raleigh, N.C.

Xaverian 61, Scottsdale Christian (Ariz.) 44: Brian Bernardi pumped in 33 points and six 3-pointers, Shakeel Kempt had 15 points and 12 rebounds and Dillon Burns had eight points for Xaverian (6-1), which finishes third in the Cactus Jam Hoop Classic in Phoenix, Ariz.

Holy Cross 73, Salmen (La.) 69, OT: Marquise Moore scored 26 points, Anthony Libroia had 14 and Will Davis 11 for Holy Cross in the Tony Rodi Basketball Classic in New Orleans, La. The Knights (9-2) finished third in the three-game tournament. Libroia was selected to the all-tournament team.

Iona Prep 57, Fordham Prep 48: Felix Abongo scored 16 points, Isiah Ice had 11 and Jack Fay nine for undefeated Iona (8-0) in non-league. Connor Murphy scored 12 points for Fordham (3-4)

Archbishop Stepinac 76, St. Mary’s of Manhasset (L.I.) 59: Tyler Iacuone had 18 points, Josh James followed with 11 and Quarry Greenaway had 10 for Stepinac (4-4) in non-league. Wilson Molina paced St. Mary’s with 24 points.

Bellarmine Prep (Md.) 71, Regis 39: Will Slater scored 12 points and Roger Lavan added seven for Regis (5-6), which finishes sixth in the Jesuit Christmas Classic in North Bethesda, Md.

Portland (Me.) 62, Moore Catholic 58: Mark Fiorello scored 13 points and John Baggs followed with 12 for Moore Catholic (13-1) in the championship game of its bracket in the Portland Holiday Tournament in Portland, Me.

Plainfield (N.J.) 55, Robeson 51: Denzel Wilson had 18 points, eight rebounds and four steals and Dwayne Johnson followed with 13 points, 10 rebounds, three steals and three blocks for Robeson (6-9) in the Planet Athlete National Holiday Invitational Showcase in Plainfield, N.J.

New Dorp 61, Fort Hamilton 39: Mike Arubuola had 27 points and 14 rebounds and John Restko had 20 points for New Dorp (6-8) in non-league.

Susan Wagner 56, Falmouth (Me.) 36: James Bertucci had 18 points, nine rebounds and seven assists as Wagner (7-8) won its bracket of the Portland Holiday Tournament in Portland, Me. by prevailing in all three contests.

McKee/Staten Island Tech 62, East Orange (N.J.) 55: Osa Izevbuwa scored 20 points and Kareem Martin added 16 for MSIT (9-5) in the Planet Athlete National Holiday Invitational Showcase in Plainfield, N.J.

Columbia Prep 61, Gloversville (N.Y.) 58: Brian Lissak had 24 points and six assists, Don Peebles had 16 points, Josh Mark had 13 points and 10 rebounds and Tyler Shasha added 14 rebounds and five steals for Columbia Prep (7-2) in non-league.

DeWitt Clinton 46, Fieldston 45: A.J. Santos scored 10 points and Grady Smith had nine for Fieldston in non-league.
