bELieve 52!

When Rutgers coach Greg Schiano addressed reporters after his team’s empty win over Army in the fall of 2010, he said he bELieved defensive tackle Eric LeGrand, No. 52, would walk again one day. LeGrand had been paralyzed from the neck down on a freak play. LeGrand led the Scarlet Knights onto the field for their Oct. 29 game. ‘bELieve’ 52 wasn’t a story for a year, it is an inspiration for the ages.

Red Storm rising

There’s only one response a team can receive that’s worse than being booed. That’s being ignored. St. John’s, which hadn’t been to the NCAA tournament since 2002, had become irrelevant. St. John’s needed a leading man. Enter the magnetic Steve Lavin, who got the Red Storm back to the Big Dance, signed a top recruiting class and has the Garden buzzing again.

A Bronx tale

Kemba Walker’s parents, Andrea and Paul, said they had a premonition at their son’s birth that he was destined for greatness. Wonder if they know the winning lottery numbers? Walker led UConn to five wins in five nights to win the Big East Conference Tournament and then six straight wins in the NCAA tournament to cut down the nets.
