Leonhard, Brunell want to stay with Jets: report

Safety Jim Leonhard and backup quarterback Mark Brunell each said Friday he would like to be back with the Jets next season, NJ.com reports.

Leonhard was lost for the season when he suffered a knee injury on Dec. 11. He is in the final year of his contract.

“It will get worked out however it may, I’d love to be here,” Leonhard said, according to the website. “Obviously I’ve really enjoyed my time here and, you just never know. You never know what’s going to happen next.

“I’m 100 percent confident that I’m going to be playing football somewhere next year. Obviously with the history here, you’d like it to be here, but you never know. You can’t say one way or the other at this point.”

Brunell, who has taken a handful of snaps in relief of Mark Sanchez this season, also needs a new contract.

“I’d love to continue being a Jet for another year, and if that didn’t happen, I would certainly welcome another opportunity,” Brunell told the website. “I’d love to keep playing, I love it, I absolutely love it.”
