Jets report card

OFFENSE

The Jets managed 374 yards, but I can’t tell you how. They had four three-and-outs and never got into any kind of rhythm. Mark Sanchez (21-of-32, 207 yards, 2 TDs, 3 INTs) did nothing to quiet his critics. His interceptions were all brutal. WR Santonio Holmes (zero catches) was invisible for most of the game and then was benched for the end. Four false-start penalties on one drive is inexcusable. D

DEFENSE

The 21-play drive gets this group marked down. The Dolphins went 6-for-6 on third downs on the drive and wore the Jets down. The rest of the game the defense played well, but the team absolutely needed a stop at that point of the game and could not get it. Antonio Cromartie and Brodney Pool both intercepted Matt Moore. C

SPECIAL TEAMS

This group did not have much impact on the game. Joe McKnight had two kickoff returns (25.5 average) and Jeremy Kerley had two punt returns (13.0 average) but never broke one. Nick Folk hit a 31-yard field goal. T.J. Conley averaged 38.2 yards on five punts. C

COACHING

This one falls on Rex Ryan. The Jets needed to win this game to keep their playoff hopes alive, and they went out and delivered an absolute dud. They had turnovers and penalties galore. They ended the game with players fighting in the huddle. But the worst decision Ryan made this year came back to bite him. When he named Holmes a captain, he lost a lot of players in his locker room.
