Cops remove gates around famed Wall Street bull – for one hour

Bull!

Cops finally removed the metal barriers surrounding the Wall Street’s bull today — for just an hour.

The NYPD had coralled the bronze bovine more than three months ago to protect the icon of capitalism from potential Occupy Wall Street vandals camped nearby at Zuccotti Park.

With the park now clear, members of the downtown activist group, the Bowling Green Association, had been told by cops the unsightly barriers would be gone today, in time to celebrate the sculpture’s 22nd anniversary. And they were.

But after the noon ceremony, the blockades were put back in place.

“Cops feel they can do whatever makes sense, [but] this is not a logical decision!” said Arthur Piccolo, chairman of the Bowling Green Association.

“This is not being made at the decision-making level that it should be! It’s even more bizarre, it’s wacky stuff! It makes no sense. I’ve never seen anything like this in my entire life,” said Piccolo.

“This is one of the most notable images of the city, they shouldn’t be casually making decisions about this, they wouldn’t do this about the Statue of Liberty or Rockefeller Center,” he said.

The bull’s few minutes of freedom were the result of months of haggling between the activists and cops.

A source close to the talks said the barriers could be gone for good by next weekend.
