Boys basketball roundup: Hayes rebounds after slow start, tops Ford

Naasir Williams scored 19 points and was named MVP as Cardinal Hayes shook off a slow start to get by Bishop Ford, 51-39, in the finale of the New Heights Holiday Hoops Festival at the Harlem Police Athletic League Monday night.

Playing its first game in 12 days, when it fell to Coral Springs (Fla.) in the Kreul Classic Sweet Sixteen championship game, the Cardinals (9-1) led just 21-19 at halftime over the CHSAA Class A foe. But they pulled away late. Josh Blagrove paced the Falcons (3-7) with 11 points.

LaSalle 75, WHEELS 63: Chris Polanco poured in 28 points and had six rebounds and four steals to earn MVP honors, Emmanuel McNeil tallied 15 points and nine rebounds and Shammgod Wells had 12 points, four steals and two assists for LaSalle (4-5) in the New Heights Holiday Hoops Festival at the Harlem PAL. Tyshawn Myles paced WHEELS with 26 points and 20 rebounds.

Pathways 75, Townsend Harris 38: Jamel Holmes had 18 points and five assists and Romario Fletcher added 12 points and 14 rebounds for Pathways (9-4, 6-1) in Queens B East. Josef Nikaj had 11 points for Townsend Harris (3-5).

St. Edmund Prep 65, New Utrecht 53, OT: Nick Grasso scored 25 points, Altine King added 12 and Chris Tsatsis 10 for St. Edmund Prep (9-2) in non-league. Eugene Robinson scored 26 points for New Utrecht.
