Jets LB Scott could be fined for flipping off photographer

In what might have been his final act with the Jets, linebacker Bart Scott exited in classless fashion.

Scott refused to speak to reporters, then gave the middle finger to a Post photographer and said, “Take a picture of this. Get out of my [bleeping] face.”

The NFL is looking into the incident and Scott could be fined. If the NFL fines Scott, the Jets would not be able to discipline him. If the NFL does not, the Jets can take action.

“That situation will be addressed,” Rex Ryan said Tuesday on ESPN Radio.

The Jets could dump Scott this offseason after a decline in his production in 2011. Scott played a reduced role this season, coming off the field on most passing downs. He is due a guaranteed $4.2 million in 2012, something he referenced on his way out the door when asked about a report that he would not be back.

“I don’t know why, I’ve got a guaranteed contract for $4 million,” he said.

UPDATES FROM OUR JETS BLOG

* Offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer is not the only member of the Jets coaching staff getting consideration for head coaching jobs. According to a source, defensive coordinator Mike Pettine is being looked at as a potential hire by a few teams around the NFL.

The source said Pettine is not a “hot candidate,” but teams are doing some homework on him and exploring whether he would make a good head coach.

* Offensive line coach Bill Callahan’s contract is up. General manager Mike Tannenbaum said the team hopes to have him back and will talk to him about a contract over the next few days.

Callahan is extremely popular with the linemen. He has told them he wants to explore all of his options.

A source said Callahan really wants to be a coordinator again and he still is angry the Jets did not allow him to interview last year with the Titans for their offensive coordinator position.

* Guard Matt Slauson said he will have an MRI exam on his left shoulder, which he injured against the Patriots in the 2010 season.
