11-year-old Bronx boy shot after bullet blasts through apartment door

An 11-year-old boy was wounded last night after a bullet tore through the front door of his Bronx apartment, police sources said.

The child, whose name was not immediately released, was shot in the stomach and was rushed to Jacobi Hospital, where he was listed in stable condition, sources said.

The violence erupted at 11:36 p.m. yesterday on the second floor of 2735 Creston Avenue in Fordham, where an unidentified gunman fired three shots for reasons that were not immediately clear.

The assailant fled and police could not rule out whether the boy was the intended target.

The boy’s mother said he wouldn’t need surgery.

“He’s doing much better but we’re all still praying for him,” she said.

Neighbors said the attack may have been gang-related and the bullets intended for the victim’s 14-year-old sister.

Members of a local came to her building earlier Thursday but left after an angry verbal confrontation ensued with the sister, who is associated with a rival gang, one neighbor said.

The sister was not home at the time of the shooting.
