SI hero struck by train helping drunk off tracks

A good Samaritan is in critical condition after trying to help an intoxicated man off of the train tracks in Staten Island today, police said.

The drunk man jumped onto the tracks at the New Dorp Station at 1:30 a.m. to retrieve his shoes, said an MTA spokesman.

It was then that the 39-year-old hero, Steven Santiago, came to his aid.

He was struck by the incoming train, while the drunk man suffered only bumps and bruises, officials said.

Santiago was rushed to Staten Island University Hospital where he is in critical condition, cops said.
