‘Wealth porn’ king hitting the road

There once was a time when Bloomberg LP prided itself on never laying off anyone.

But that all changed in February 2009, when in the midst of the recession new management undertook the first layoffs since Mayor Mike Bloomberg founded the firm in 1981.

Now like everyone else, the data and news giant nips and snips as times demand.

Yesterday, Bloomberg Businessweek gave walking papers to one full-time staffer, Charles Dubow, and two other journalists who were technically freelancers but had seats at the Bloomberg HQ and virtual full-time shifts.

The former lifestyle editor of Forbes.com, Dubow packed up his “wealth porn” and jumped to BusinessWeek.com in 2006, when it was still owned by McGraw-Hill, to become director of new products.
