Devils to rest Zajac through All-Star break

Devils GM Lou Lamoriello said Wednesday that No. 1 center Travis Zajac will remain off skates for several weeks to rest his surgically repaired Achilles tendon.

Zajac underwent surgery Aug. 18 of last year on the tendon he tore during training exercises and made his season debut Dec. 16 against the Stars.

Lamoriello said Zajac, who has not played since Jan. 2, would be idle through the All-Star break, which concludes Jan. 29.

“Travis was still a little sore, so we flew him to Winnipeg to see the doctor that performed the surgery. He said it was best to shut him down for a couple of weeks. He won’t be do anything at all,” Lamoriello said.

Zajac had one goal and two assists in eight games this season.

The Devils play at Edmonton on Wednesday and in Winnipeg, Zajac’s hometown, on Saturday.
