Three killed in shooting at NC lumber company

STAR, NC — Three people were killed early Friday in an apparent workplace shooting at a lumber company in Star, NC, WXII-TV reported.

Montgomery County Sheriff Dempsey Owens said four people were shot at the McBride Lumber Company in Star, roughly 50 miles south of Greensboro. Three people died in the rampage, while a fourth worker was airlifted to the hospital.

The gunman, who was described as a disgruntled employee, entered the warehouse and started shooting workers, Owens quoted witnesses as saying. Police responded to the emergency at around 6 a.m. local time.

WRAL-TV identified the shooter as Ronald Dean Davis, 50. The names of the victims have not been released.

After the shooting, Davis returned to his home and shot himself. He was also airlifted to the hospital. His condition was not immediately known.
