New Jersey high school football coach arrested for sexual assault

LYNDHURST, N.J. — A New Jersey high school football coach was suspended Wednesday after he was charged with having a sexual relationship with a former female student, The Record reported.

Scott Rubinetti, a 39-year-old teacher and football coach at Lyndhurst High School, was arrested on charges of sexual assault, endangering the welfare of a child and witness tampering.

Police said the arrest was made after another teacher learned of the relationship and reported the information to the superintendent of Lyndhurst High School, who then notified police.

“The alleged victim in this investigation was located and confirmed inappropriate sexual conduct occurred between her and Rubinetti and the sexual abuse happened between 2009 and 2010 when the student was a senior at Lyndhurst High School,” prosecutor John L. Molinelli and Lyndhurst police chief James O’Connor said Wednesday in a joint release.

“During the course of the investigation, Rubinetti is alleged to have contacted the victim in this investigation and told her to lie to law enforcement if questioned regarding their inappropriate sexual conduct with each other.”

Rubinetti, who authorities said was married, was remanded in Bergen County Jail, with bail set at $150,000.
