WORD OF ISAIAH: Big weekend for Lewis, Christ the King

Every other week during the winter, Christ the King’s Isaiah Lewis, one of the nation’s top junior guards, takes us with him on his journey for a city and state Federation championship. In this exclusive diary for NYPost.com, the multi-talented 6-foot-3 Lewis talks about the Royals’ big weekend against St. Raymond and Cardinal Hayes and the new schools recruiting him.

The second quarter [marking perod] just ended for grades. I finished with an 82 average and passed a few Regents I took last week. That’s good as far as school. I’m getting it done.

As far as recruiting, Villanova is in the mix, Florida State is in the mix, Pittsburgh contacted my coach. As far as new schools, that’s who’s coming into the picture. I’m really not going to take visits until after the season. We’re about to start our playoffs. I’m focused on that, winning the city and state.

I wouldn’t say [I’m going to commit] next year, I’m going to wait it out. Now that the end of the season is coming to a close and AAU is coming up, there will be some new schools to come. Right now I’m putting it on hold. I want to give new schools a chance to come in and hear them out.

This weekend right here is big – it’s real big especially for guys like me and Omar. There’s a lot of talk going on we haven’t lives up to the hype. These two teams [St. Raymond and Cardinal Hayes] have some good guards. It’s going to be a good challenge.

Obviously there will be bragging rights. There will be a lot of talk going on. One player may think he’s better than another, he’s going to try to prove that. These two schools [Christ the King and St. Raymond] have some history behind them. St. Ray’s beat us in the regular season last year on our home court and when it counted at St. Johns [in the CHSAA Class AA intersectional semifinals], we beat them. I’m pretty sure they’re gonna remember that. They’ll try to come out aggressive.

We go to St. Raymond [on Friday]. We’ll be playing in a hostile environment. I’m sure they’ll bring it. Cardinal Hayes comes to our gym on Saturday. It should be two fun games. If you want to see good basketball, come to those two games. Other than that, everything has been regular.

Nike EYBL schedule just came out. I’m going to play with Albany City Rock. I’m looking to put my name on the map even more. I feel like I’ve been [dropped in national rankings] being that I’m from New York. This spring and summer, I’m going to take it real personal. I want to prove myself as a top-40 guy. I need to work on my game and I’m going to push myself.

Check back with Isaiah Lewis every other Wednesday during the season. His next diary will run Feb. 15.
