Giants DL Canty says faith healer helped him

INDIANAPOLIS — Giants defensive tackle Chris Canty has pronounced himself fit for Super Bowl XLVI after having his injuries treated by a faith healer.

Canty received his instant rehab Sunday, when he was called before the congregation at the Community Baptist Church in Englewood, N.J. Dr. Lester W. Taylor laid his hands on Canty and prayed for any injuries to be healed and for Canty’s safety during the upcoming Super Bowl.

“Bishop Taylor called me down in front of the congregation,” Canty said, channeling his best Tim Tebow. “He just wanted to lay hands on me and have the whole congregation pray for me, pray for health and strength of the team that will be competing in the football game.

“We understand that God gave us these tremendous talents and abilities to glorify his name on the biggest stage of sports in the world. We have an opportunity to perform at a high level and give God all the glory to bless us with that platform. I’m tremendously honored, and I feel blessed to have the pastor pray for me.”

Canty didn’t back down from his comments earlier in the week forecasting a victory parade in New York on Tuesday. There has been so little trash talk between the Giants and Patriots that anything sounding remotely like a guarantee gets treated with headlines.

“It’s one of those things,” Canty said. “The Patriots are a confident group. They’ve earned the right to be here. But we’re a confident group as well, and we’ve earned the right to be here, too.”

Running back Brandon Jacobs gave Canty’s parade forecast two thumbs up.

“If anybody that plays defense feels that way, I feel that way,” he said. “Those guys have to be the one to deal with Tom Brady, and if he’s confident in that’s the thing that’s going to happen, I’m with him. Expect the parade on Tuesday.”
