PSAL boys basketball borough playoff roundup: LIC upsets Beach Channel

One year later, Long Island City pulled off the upset.

After falling in the Queens borough quarterfinals by two points last year, the fifth-seeded Bulldogs topped No. 4 Beach Channel, 45-43, on Tuesday to advance to the Queens semis, the only ‘A’ team to do so.

Sadji Camara hit four 3-pointers and scored 18 points, Arthur Santanna had 10 points and 14 rebounds and Kevin Green Jr. notched eight points, seven rebounds and four assists for LIC (22-2), which just wrapped up its second straight undefeated league season in Queens A West. It will visit top-seeded Bayside, the Queens AA regular season champion, in the semifinals Thursday at 5 p.m. Beach Channel falls to 9-6.

No. 1 Bayside 61, No. 8 John Adams 41: Uzonna Akazi had 23 points, five rebounds and four blocks, Brandon King scored 13 points and Vincent England had eight for Bayside (19-4), which led 29-9 at halftime and hosts fifth-seeded Long Island City in the semifinals Thursday at 5 p.m. Markell French had 13 points for Adams (11-4)

No. 2 Cardozo 83, No. 7 Construction 46: Tajay Henry had 22 points and 13 rebounds, Kyle Credle followed with 13 points and five assists, Kendall Brown notched 11 points and Omar Williams and Ryan Yearwood each had 10 for Cardozo, which hosts rival Campus Magnet, the third seed, in the semifinals Thursday at 5:15 p.m. The Judges (17-6) blew the game open with a 27-5 fourth quarter. Construction is now 17-7.

BROOKLYN

No. 1 Thomas Jefferson 103, No. 8 Lafayette 83: Mike Watson Jr. scored 19 points, Nazai Stokes had 14 points and Jaquan (Son Son) Lynch added 13 for Jefferson (19-5), which has won nine in a row and hosts No. 4 South Shore Thursday at 5 p.m. in the semifinals. No. 4 South Shore 58, No. 5 Brooklyn Collegiate 45: Shamiek Sheppard scored 18 points and Terrence Samuel had eight for South Shore (18-7), which visits No. 1 Jefferson Thursday at 5 p.m. in the semifinals. No. 1 Wings Academy 91, No. 8 Stevenson 54: Jaequan Brown had had 19 points, nine rebounds and five assists, Justin Jenkins followed with 18 points and six rebounds, Steven Gomez had 15 points and 11 rebounds, Francisco Infante also scored 15 points and Marvilio Berroa had 12 points and 10 rebounds for Wings (23-2), which hosts No. 5 Mott Haven in the semifinals Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at Mott Hall. Stevenson is 13-7.

No. 2 John F. Kennedy 78, No. 7 DeWitt Clinton 60: Veton Hasangjekaj scored 15 points and Tyrone Xodjoe had 12 points and four assists for Clinton (14-7), which won Bronx A West. Kennedy (16-9) will host No. 3 Eagle Academy in the semifinals Thursday at 5 p.m.

No. 1 Wadleigh 88, No. 8 Eleanor Roosevelt 60: Louis Costen had 23 points and 13 rebounds, Basil Harley added 19 points and 11 assists, Stephen Turner had 12 points and Lenny Kadisha eight points and 10 rebounds for Wadeigh (19-5), which hosts fourth-seeded Graphic Communications in the semifinals Thursday at 5 p.m. Eleanor Roosevelt, the Manhattan B-1 winner, is 13-2.

No. 2 Manhattan Center 66, No. 7 Health Professions 43: Nyk King scored 15 points, Yelsin Gonzalez followed with 14 and Khalil Hamer had 12 for Manhattan Center (8-9), which hosts No. 3 Hunter College HS Thursday at 5 p.m. in the semifinals. Gelvis Solano had 21 points and 10 rebounds for Health Professions (13-1), the Manhattan B-2 leader which trailed 24-9 after the first quarter.

No. 3 Hunter College HS 68, No. 6 Stuyvesant 59: Sam Gordon posted 20 points, 13 rebounds and six assists, Kadeem Nibbs had 11 points and 13 rebounds and Joseph Gary, Ari Yellin-Flaherty and Mark Terng added 10 points apiece for Hunter (16-2), which takes on second-seeded Manhattan Center in the semifinals Thursday at 5 p.m. Stuyvesant is now 12-5.

No. 4 Graphic Communications 71, No. 5 Norman Thomas 62: Grady King made 14-of-16 free throws and poured in 31 points, Shaquille Thompson had 12 points and five assists and Rashawn Johnson had 10 for Graphic (15-2), which visits top-seeded Wadleigh Thursday at 5 p.m. in the semifinals. Norman Thomas is 14-3.
