THE WORD OF ISAIAH: Lewis talks rolling Royals, learning to be a Lin-like point guard

Every other week during the winter, Christ the King’s Isaiah Lewis, one of the nation’s top junior guards, takes us with him on his journey for a city and state Federation championship. In this exclusive diary for NYPost.com, the multi-talented 6-foot-3 Lewis talks about the Royals’ recent six-game winning streak and learning how to be more of a point guard.

Right now we’re on a roll. We’ve beaten some of the top teams in the city. In my last blog, I told everyone we were going to win those games [against St. Raymond and Cardinal Hayes] and I was gonna come out and play big. I think I’ve proven myself.

Going to St. Ray’s was a catalyst, beating them on their Senior Night on their floor, and the next day we beat a good Cardinal Hayes team people thought was the best team in the city.

Those two wins were big fur us. It kind of got us rolling. Our last game against Holy Cross we came back from 15 down and won in overtime. That was a good win. Now we’re getting ready for the playoffs and trying to get a city championship and hopefully win states.

I’m just getting a lot of reps in the gym, getting ready for the playoffs and AAU. Nike EYBL season is coming up in April. I’m getting ready for that.

I spoke to coach [Josh] Pastner from Memphis the day they officially got into the Big East. He gave me a call, told me the news. Louisville coach [Rick] Pitino called my coach [Joe Arbitello] to check up on me. All the coaches involved with me are getting ready for postseason play, they want to let me know they’re recruiting me, but they’re getting ready for the playoffs like me.

I haven’t been scoring a lot like everybody has been used to, but the ball’s been in my hands, I’m being a facilitator. I got guys like Jon [Severe] and Omar [Calhoun} who really score the ball. Getting 12-15 points and eight assists is good for me. I want to be a facilitator and score when I need to. I’m working on picking my spots and getting guys involved. That’s the best thing for me, being able to pass and score at the same time.

I’m watching the Knicks game right now. My assistant coach Jerel Coakley told me to watch how [Jeremy Lin] plays, how he scores, picks his spots, finds open guys. I’ve been watching a lot of that. He’s been killing it.

Check back with Isaiah Lewis every other Wednesday during the season. His next diary will run March 1.
