Mark Sanchez normally throws to his receivers, but now the Jets quarterback is making a different kind of pass at one of them.
Sanchez posted a picture to his Twitter account early Wednesday morning with a Valentine’s Day message to Santonio Holmes.
“@santonio10 you want to be my Valentine? #fb” Sanchez tweeted.
Along with the message was a picture of a heart-shaped box of shortbread cookies. It was Sanchez’s first tweet since the end of the Jets’ season.

Holmes had not responded to the tweet as of Wednesday morning, but the wide receiver did tweet prior to the Super Bowl saying “@Mark_Sanchez @Pouha91 Hope your [sic] getting as antsy as me for the 2012-13 season to start. One more day til we start to make that journey.”
The relationship between the third-year quarterback and Holmes reportedly hit the rocks at the end of last season, with Holmes benched in the team’s Week 17 game against the Dolphins and called a “cancer” by a teammate who chose to remain anonymous.
After the season ended, running back LaDainian Tomlinson called the relationship between Sanchez and Holmes, and the entire Jets locker room, “as bad as I’ve ever been around.” Tomlinson is not expected back with the team.
Sanchez did not tweet a Valentine’s message to Kate Upton, whom he has previously been linked to after Page Six reported he had been spotted at her Flatiron apartment several times late last year.
