Edun

Edun’s show was held in a freezing-cold, cavernous warehouse at Pier 57. Luckily, designer Sharon Wauchob sent out a strong series of structured wool jackets in charcoal and gray worn over airy silk and chiffon dresses.

The contrast was satisfying. “I like the juxtaposition of extremes. I like the body-conscious this season, but at the same time I like the enlarged,” she said after the show. “Like a tight little dress — printed, chiffon — and the big parka on top.”

Tight-knit sweaters were paired with subtly sexy pleated skirts in wool, leather, and black-and-white plaid shot through with orange.

Printed silk and chiffon dresses — in zebra, safari and electric blue leopard prints — were inspired by photos cofounder Ali Hewson’s trip to Africa.

On the cab’s TV on the way to the show, a quick spot for the brand played, featuring six varieties of African butterflies. It’s part of the label’s new expansion, which also includes a print campaign. With a collection this strong, the future looks bright for Edun — even if that warehouse was dark.
