Knicks’ Lin joins Tollivers ‘band’

MINNEAPOLIS — Jeremy Lin and Timberwolves forward Anthony Tolliver share a bond — and a band.

Lin is one of roughly 20-30 NBA players who have worn wristbands made by Active Faith, a company Tolliver holds an ownership stake in. Knicks teammate Landry Fields also wears the wristband.

“It became something that grew and grew and grew,” Tolliver said before last night’s 100-98 Knicks victory.

Through the company, which Tolliver said was brought to Lin’s attention last year in Golden State by Stephen Curry, Tolliver got a chance to know Lin long before he became an overnight sensation.

Tolliver, like Lin a veteran of the NBA Development League, said he thinks Lin will be able to handle the attention without much trouble.

“He’s a humble guy,” Tolliver said. “He’ll do just fine with it. He’s pretty grounded. He just wants to go out there and play basketball.

“He’s just like I was whenever I was in and out of the NBA and just wanted a chance. He’s taken advantage of it, and obviously is doing really well with it.”

Like Lin, Tolliver bounced around a couple of different organizations before finally getting a chance to play with the Warriors during the 2009-10 season, when he averaged 12.3 points and 7.3 rebounds in 44 games. He signed with the Timberwolves before last season, but did not appear last night.

“There’s not a better feeling than that, just to get an opportunity to play at this level, to show people that you have the ability to play at this level,” Tolliver said. “It’s crazy to say something like this, but after four games, he’s going to be able to turn this into a long career, as long as he stays solid.

“But he’s showing people that if you give me a shot, I’m going to be able to play and play well.”
