Jackson doctor Conrad Murray banned from practicing medicine in Texas

AUSTIN, Texas — Michael Jackson’s doctor Conrad Murray, serving four years behind bars for the involuntary manslaughter of the former King of Pop, has been banned from practicing medicine in Texas.

Murray’s medical license was suspended Friday by the Texas Medical Board (TMB), the Houston Chronicle reported Sunday.

A board spokeswoman said the suspension “achieves the same effect as license revocation.”

Murray started a cardiology practice in Houston in 2006 and saw patients in the state as recently as mid-2011, though a 2010 action by the TMB banned him from administering propofol.

He was found guilty in November of administering the dose of propofol that caused 50-year-old pop icon Jackson’s death in June 2009.

Murray filed a request last month to be released from jail pending his appeal against his conviction.
