Yankees ace Sabathia saw Garden go Linsane

CC Sabathia was at Madison Square Garden last Friday for Jeremy Lin’s spectacular 38-point explosion against Kobe Bryant and the Lakers, the performance that, once and for all, proved Linsanity is here to stay.

“I’ve never seen the Garden like that,” Sabathia said yesterday in Midtown at an event promoting Sony’s MLB The Show ’12 video game. “Everyone keeps telling me, ‘Oh, this is what it was like in the ’90s,’ … but to actually be there and be part of it was a great feeling.”

You can count the Yankees lefty, a staple at Knicks games during his offseason, among those who have enjoyed the meteoric rise of the newest star in town.

“It’s exciting to see what he’s doing,” Sabathia said. “Them winning seven games in a row, it’s crazy to watch what he’s been doing, and he’s playing great. Things are just going to be better once [Carmelo Anthony] gets back.”

Sabathia is headed to Tampa tomorrow, one day ahead of the mandatory date for Yankees pitchers and catchers to report to spring training. Although he’ll be missing out on the next several weeks of Knicks games, he’s hoping the rejuvenated team will be relevant once the Yankees start their season.

“Well, hopefully they’ll make the playoffs, and I’ll be able to catch some games during the season,” Sabathia said. “I know our seasons overlap a little bit, and we get some days off, so hopefully we’ll be able to check them out.”
