Schools have a prayer

Their prayers were answered.

A Christian congregation facing imminent eviction from a Bronx public school won a 10-day reprieve yesterday.

Manhattan federal Chief Judge Loretta Preska issued a temporary restraining order that allows The Bronx Household of Faith to continue holding Sunday services in PS 15.

Preska said the self-described “urban church” and Pastor Jack Roberts “have demonstrated irreparable harm” if the Board of Education enforces a 2002 ban on “using a school as a house of worship.”

She also said the plaintiffs were likely to win “on the merits” of their argument that the rule violates the right to “free exercise” of religion under the First Amendment.

City lawyer Jonathan Pines said officials “will seek an immediate appellate review” of Preska’s order.
