Reem Acra

The PR girls and security were intensely protective of the black shiny runway as showgoers flooded in. “No one goes on the runway, no one steps on the runway!” one barked, and show runners lined up in front of the seats with their arms held out protectively. Each time an unfortunate soul actually stepped on the runway, it was quicklly Swiffered over.

Well, we all have our quirks, but it wasn’t the best way to start an otherwise glamorous show.

Reem Acra has already had an exciting year: Madonna wore her one of her sparkling gowns to the Golden Globes. Sexy, tight leather sheath dresses in hunter green, black, and bordeaux were followed by some rather standard-issue outerwear, including capes and a leather jackets. Also, the herringbone suits felt out of place among the lean silhouettes.

The super-slim pencil skirts in more black leather and boucle were much more exciting, as was a sheer drop-waist dresses with metallic Deco motifs. A series of sparkly minidresses embroidered and beaded in silver, black and gold followed. Then came the gowns: long and lean, some of them featuring major cutouts and leg slits, others decorated in silver and gold sequins and beads. They had a ’30s movie star feel and would be perfect for the adventurous ingenue on the red carpet.
