Boys basketball roundup: Collegiate outlasts Bedford Academy, reaches tournament final

Collegiate took down another PSAL Brooklyn A East powerhouse on Saturday.

Connor Huff poured in 31 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, Ryan Frankel scored 20 of his 23 points in the second half and forced overtime with a 3-pointer late in regulation and Mark Jazbik had 12 points and 10 rebounds as Collegiate (22-2) topped Bedford Academy, 81-77, in overtime in the Collegiate Invitational semifinals.

The Dutchmen, winners of 13 straight, meet LuHi in the tournament final Sunday at 3 p.m. Neil Veira scored 22 points, Sean Snagg notched 17 points and Darren Thomas had 14 for Bedford Academy (20-5), which faces Fieldston in the third-place game at 1 p.m.

Long Island Lutheran 69, Fieldston 53: Anthony Pate scored 16 points, Tim Quashie had 13, Chris Atkinson 11 and Kentan Facey followed with eight points, 15 rebounds and six blocks for LuHi (19-6), which meets Collegiate in the Collegiate Invitational championship game Sunday at 3 p.m. Mike Bregman and Grady Smith each scored eight points for Fieldston (20-5), which faces Bedford Academy in the third-place game Sunday at 1 p.m.

Dalton 85, Hunter College HS 47: Henry Lowe poured in 32 points – all in the first half – to reach 1,000 for his career and Connor Jacobson added 17 points for Dalton in the consolation bracket of the Collegiate Invitational. The Tigers (13-11) face Riverdale in the NYSAIS Class B quarterfinals Thursday at 5 p.m. while Hunter College takes on John Adams in the PSAL Class A first round Tuesday at 5 p.m.

Eleanor Roosevelt 62, FDA 49: Taulant Ibraj scored 22 points for Eleanor Roosevelt (16-3 in the Collegiate Invitational consolation round. The Huskies take on Holcombe Rucker in the PSAL Class B first round Tuesday at 5 p.m. while FDA (14-5) meets CSI/McCown in the PSAL Class A first round in the first round Tuesday, also at 5 p.m.

CHSAA CLASS B QUARTERFINALS

St. Agnes 71, Monsignor Scanlan 43: Brian Zorilla had 25 points, Dimencio Vaughn had 18 points and Kashif Davis added 14 points for No. 2 St. Agnes (9-5), which meets No. 3 Sacred Heart in the semifinals 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Fordham Prep. Second-seeded Scanlan finishes 0-13.

Sacred Heart 56, Blessed Sacrament 45: Matt Balaj had 17 points and John Gause had 12 points to lead No. 3 Sacred Heart (14-8), which meets No. 2 St. Agnes in the semifinals 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Fordham Prep. No. 6 Blessed Sacrament finishes 1-19.
