Avril Lavigne in talks to become ‘X Factor’ judge: report

LOS ANGELES — Avril Lavigne is in talks to become a judge on “The X Factor,” TMZ reported Sunday.

The Canadian singer believes her experience in the limelight from the tender age of 15 makes her the perfect candidate to mentor the US show’s young wannabes, the website claimed.

She is holding talks with the show’s producers, who have two judging slots to fill for the show’s second series since Simon Cowell fired Paula Abdul and Nicole Scherzinger.

Lavigne already is connected to the hit FOX talent show — L.A. Reid, one of its judges, signed the “Girlfriend” singer to Arista Records in 2000 for a deal worth $1.25 million for two albums.

The 27 year old also performed her breakthrough hit “Complicated” on the “X Factor” final in December last year, in a duet with finalist Chris Rene.

However, the rocker faces serious competition for the high-earning role — Britney Spears was said to be keen to join the judging panel, while divas Janet Jackson, Pink and Mariah Carey also were touted as potential replacements for Abdul and Scherzinger.

LeAnn Rimes put herself forward as a contender for the job last week, telling E! she loved the show and was “open” to the role of judge.
