NYC public school teacher evaluations

The New York City Department of Education has released the following data for teachers in grades 4 through 8, including at charter schools.

Teachers were given percentiles from 0 (low) to 99 (high) based on student performance.

The “Multi” column is a combination of rankings from the three school years from 2007-08 to 2009-10, and the 2010 column is the ranking for only 2009-10, the most recent year.

The rankings have an average error range of 35 in math and 53 in English, varying by teacher. Classrooms taught by two teachers are indicated with a “(CO)” for co-teachers. “Range” indicates the confidence interval (margin of error) for each score.

Charter schools used a slightly different formula for rating teachers than district public schools, but were individually ranked against district teachers.
