ORLANDO, Fla. — Steve Nash, who has been the most frequent comparison for Knicks point guard Jeremy Lin, has appreciated the story more than anyone. Even if it could affect the Suns point guard’s free-agent status down the road.
Lin could take the $5 million mid-level exception the Knicks planned to offer to Nash. But he’s thrilled, partly for his former coach Mike D’Antoni.
“It’s a fairy tale,’’ Nash said yesterday. “His story is a great story. It’s phenomenal because it’s the media capital of the world. He erupted on a Knicks team that was desperate. We have a desperate fan base, desperate team and the most unlikely of saviors. It’s an unbelievable, viral, contagious story, and on top of that he’s handled it amazingly. He’s a great kid, and seems very even-keeled and intelligent.’’
