Carmelo not a ‘practicing’ talker

If Carmelo Anthony is OK with coach Mike D’Antoni’s threat that the Knicks starters’ minutes are on the decline because of the team’s depth, he has kept his thoughts mostly private. Anthony did not speak to reporters for the second straight practice Friday and for the third time this week. The Knicks have had three practices open to the media this week, and Anthony has not spoken at any of them.

D’Antoni said Anthony is fine with the way things are playing out.

“I would think anyone at this stage of his life, I would think winning would be No. 1,’’ D’Antoni said. “I think however we can do it, we just can do it. I’m hoping, it seems like [Anthony] is great. Amar’e [Stoudemire] is the same way, been everything positive.’’

Anthony did speak to reporters Friday night at Knicks Bowl 13, a charity event at Chelsea Piers.

“Practice has been very productive,” he said. “This is our time where we can make a run.”

The Knicks met with a team doctor after Thursday’s practice to discuss their sleeping habits. Steve Novak said in an ESPN radio interview some players had complained about sleeping troubles because of the wired Garden atmosphere and the doctor’s recommendation was warm milk.

One person familiar with the situation said, “The Knicks monitor everything. They test their sweat.’’

Said Stoudemire: “I never have problems sleeping.’’

Rookie 7-foot center Jerome Jordan was sent to the D-League affiliate in Erie following rookie forward Josh Harrellson’s return from injury. Jordan, who has appeared in 13 games, was sent to Erie with Lin in January for two games.
