MIDWEST: UNC looks like best of blue bloods

Man, is there some basketball royalty in the Midwest region: North Carolina, Kansas, Georgetown, Michigan — that’s talkin’ national titles.

The Tar Heels really shouldn’t have any trouble getting to the Sweet 16. Playing in Greensboro is home sweet home, although Creighton, led by forward Doug McDermott, will not go quietly.

TOURNAMENT BRACKET

The Jayhawks should also benefit from home cookin’ in Omaha and potentially St. Louis in the regional final.

The third-seeded Hoyas and fourth-seeded Wolverines both perplex opponents with unconventional play.

Best Player: Kansas F Thomas Robinson — Puts the power in power forward

Unsung Hero: Ramone Moore, Temple — A prototype Philly guard.

Best Second-round Matchup: No. 11 N.C. State played very well down the stretch. If the Wolfpack keep it up, the committee didn’t do No. 6 San Diego State any favors.

Best Second-round Upset: We’re picking South Florida to get past Cal in an ugly first-round game. The Bulls will then try to drag Temple into their ring of defensive hell. Temple converts 40.2 percent of its 3s. The Bulls allow 29.7 percent.

Sleeper: No. 7 Saint Mary’s — The Gaels have a rock-steady point guard in Matthew Dellavedova and some beefy guys up front.

OK Corral: The Creighton Bluejays strafe the field, hitting 42.5 percent of their 3s and 73.2 percent of their free throws.

CHAMPION: In an epic final, the Tar Heels outlast Kansas by the slimmestofmargins.
