Pitino, Calipari futures in doubt

It’s a long shot, but a shot nonetheless. The possibility exists that two of the premier programs in college basketball — both in Kentucky — could be looking for new coaches.

Sources told The Post Louisville coach Rick Pitino briefly thought about stepping down after last season’s first-round NCAA loss to Morehead State. It was the Cardinals’ second straight first-round loss. If they lose in the first round this year, there is a segment of Louisville fans that will start calling for Pitino to resign.

Meanwhile, Kentucky coach John Calipari, who has made the Wildcats into the team to beat, might consider the NBA if he finally can win an NCAA title.
