Escalator death fall

An elderly woman died yesterday after taking a tumble down the escalator at a Long Island Rail Road station, authorities said.

The woman fell shortly before 2 p.m. at the busy Lindenhurst station, served by LIRR’s Babylon line.

It’s unclear what caused the woman to lose her balance or if the escalator in any way malfunctioned.

But MTA cops immediately took it out of service and ordered an inspection of its parts.

The victim’s name was not released, pending family notification.
