‘Idol’ hopeful reportedly leaving show after rap sheet revelations

LOS ANGELES — “American Idol” contestant Jermaine Jones will reportedly be kicked off the TV singing contest for covering up the fact he was arrested twice last year.

Jones’ rap sheet includes charges of public nuisance, disorderly conduct and obstruction of justice, and giving a false name when arrested, according to TMZ.

Show producers vetted all the top contestants and while Jones reportedly lied about his past, bosses confronted him over it Tuesday.

The 24-year-old has also been described as “very aggressive” in his interactions with “Idol” crew behind the scenes. On one occasion he shouted at a crewmember because he was unhappy about his wardrobe, a source from the FOX show told TMZ.

Jones, dubbed the “Gentle Giant” for his six-foot-eight frame, joined the competition after wowing judges with his rendition of Luther Vandross’ “Superstar.”

“It’s a natural gift that you have,” Jennifer Lopez told him, with Steven Tyler saying, “You have a very spiritual voice.”

Jones actually did not make the cut for the top 24 but judges brought him back for a second chance.

The New Jersey native, who works as a music teacher, is expected to appear on “Idol” Wednesday night before he says farewell.

A spokesperson for the show had no comment on the TMZ report.
