Sears drops clothing sales at 10 stores

Sears Holdings Corp. plans to stop selling clothes at 10 stores where the retailer says customers would rather see more goods such as mattresses and recliners.

Sears has no plans to expand the reallocation to other stores, Amy Dimond, a spokeswoman, said in an e-mail. Clothing will still be available online, she said.

CEO Lou D’Ambrosio last month said that the company was taking “immediate actions” to address its losses, including cost and inventory reductions, targeted marketing and hiring for its merchandising team. Sears, controlled by hedge-fund executive Edward Lampert, on Feb. 23 posted its largest quarterly loss in at least nine years.
