Girls lacrosse roundup: Midwood tops Dozo, remains unbeaten

The goal this season for Midwood was to break through to the PSAL Class A final and become one of the league’s elite teams. The Hornets are already showing signs it could be a possibility.

Moriam Soetan racked up an astounding nine goals and added an assist in Midwood’s 16-9 win against Cardozo in PSAL Championship division girls lacrosse Tuesday. Linhen Beltran had four goals and three assists for Midwood (4-0) Tuesday. Tianna Chin chipped in two goals and two assists. Milana larin led Cardozo (2-1) with three goals and a helper.

The Hornets are one of just two unbeaten teams in league play. They face the other – defending champion Tottenville – 5 p.m. Friday at Aviator Sports Complex with first place on the line.

Tottenville 17, Frederick Douglass 7: Victoria Orlick scored six goals and added an assist and Nicole Tantillo found the back of the net four times and dished out two assists for Tottenville (3-0) Tuesday. Maria Cacciapuoti had three goals and a helper and Jessica Castellano added a goal and an assist. Cheyenne Taylor had three goals for Frederick Douglass (0-4)

Beach Channel 8, Stuyvesant 4: Tabitha Rosario found the back of the net three times and Melisa Williams and Tashawna Reid had two goals apiece for Beach Channel (2-2) Tuesday. Kavelle Lawrence added a goal and Tianna Parkes made 12 saves. Stuyvesant is 1-3.

Curtis 10, Hunter College 5: Nicole O’Gara tallied four goals and sister Taylor O’Gara chipped in three for Curtis (3-1) Tuesday. Acacia Metz added two goals. Jean Kim paced Hunter (0-4) with four goals.

CHSAA NASSAU/SUFFOLK A

Mary Louis 9, St. Mary’s 4: Anna McGovern found the back of the next five times and Allison Moloney scored twice for Mary Louis (1-0). Lyndsey Spangel and Grace McGovern added a goal apiece and Deidre Ray made 14 saves. Katheryn Flannigan led St. Mary’s (1-0) with two goals.

PSAL BOWL DIVISION

Long Island City 17, Queens HS of Teaching 12: Chantell Chimbo found the back of the net eight times for Long Island City (3-0). Stephanie Escala tallied four goals and Karen Amaya scored three. Queens HS of Teaching is 1-3.
