CHSAA baseball roundup: St. Ray’s edges Regis

St. Raymond rallied from a one-run deficit to score twice in the bottom of the fifth to beat division rival Regis, 2-1, at Ravens Field in The Bronx Tuesday afternoon.

Manny Rivera, who was 2-for-3, slid home to score the tying run on Leo Bravo’s single and following a wild sequence, Steven Checo, running for first baseman Jon Crucey, who reached on a walk, scored the go-ahead run for St. Raymond (7-7).

No. 10 Regis (7-7) threatened twice in the final two innings as Jake Kinsley singled in the sixth and stole second and third, but was stranded while Mike Glasser had a one-out double in the seventh but wasn’t able to score the tying run.

Freddy Gonzalez went the distance, allowing one run on five hits, striking out nine with one walk for his fifth win of the season for St. Ray’s.

Monsignor McClancy 3, Bishop Ford 1: Mike D’Agostino went the distance, allowing one run on three hits, striking out four, Robert Mongori went 2-for-3 with an RBI and Anthony Merchan was 2-for-3 to lead Monsignor McClancy (6-7) at the Parade Grounds Tuesday afternoon. Bishop Ford fell to 5-8.

All Hallows 2, Xavier 1: Stephen Alemas went 2-for-3, Jason Reyes went the distance, allowing one run on three hits, striking out three with two walks, and catcher Roger Ramos made the game-saving play with the bases loaded and two outs in the seventh, diving back home to record the final out for No. 5 All Hallows (10-3) Tuesday afternoon in Red Hook, Brooklyn. Xavier falls to 7-7.

Iona Prep 8, Cardinal Spellman 0: Christian Fiorito had a pair of doubles and four RBIs, Jimmy Foley went 2-for-2 with a double and two RBIs, Justin Muratore was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and Rob Ambrosino struck out nine in a complete-game one-hitter for No. 6 Iona Prep (11-3), while Cardinal Spellman fell to 4-9.

Archbishop Molloy 2, Christ the King 1: In a pitcher’s duel at Juniper Valley Park, Jonathan Ramon outdueled Manhattan-bound Joe Mortillaro to lead No. 3 Archbishop Molloy (10-3) over Christ the King (3-10) Tuesday afternoon.

Fordham Prep 9, Archbishop Stepinac 5: Zach Leone went 2-for-3 with a single, a double and four RBIs, Jack Becker gave up one earned run in six innings to pick up the win, Mike Seminario had a pair of RBIs and Steve Fondu was 1-for-2 with a walk and an RBI to lead No. 8 Fordham Prep (9-4) Tuesday night at Coffey Field. No. 9 Stepinac fell to 8-5.
