NYC baseball rankings

Another week goes by and still no major changes in The Post’s baseball rankings. Don’t get used to such consistency; we sure won’t. This coming week has the makings of a major shakeup as No. 2 George Washington and third-ranked Poly Prep face in Bay Ridge while CHSAA powers No. 6 Xaverian and No. 7 Molloy and No. 4 Monsignor Farrell and no. 10 St. Joseph by the Sea also face off.

For now, enjoy our current rankings. We doubt they will look the same in seven days.

1. Grand Street Campus (11-0) (Last week: 1)

Williams Jerez, the city’s top prospect who many think can go as high as the second round in next month’s draft, continued to put up monster numbers this week in victories over Brooklyn Tech and FDR. The slugging outfielder homered, tripled three times, drove in five runs and scored six times. No wonder Major League scouts have been such a fixture at Grand Street games this spring.

Next: @ Midwood (May 9, 4 p.m.)

2. George Washington (10-0) (2)

The nationally-ranked Trojans marched on with two wins over FDA and one over West 50th Street Campus as their deep pitching staff allowed just three runs in 21 innings. Junior right-hander Kevin Torres and his 2-0 mark and 0.76 ERA is one of the biggest surprises of the PSAL season and one reason George Washington has remained undefeated in Manhattan A East.

Next: @ Manhattan Center (May 9, 4:30 p.m.)

3. Poly Prep (15-1) (3)

Sophomore ace Andrew Zapata has faced all challenges and come out smelling like a rose, with four complete games and three shutouts to his credit, but he faces his biggest test Tuesday in second-ranked George Washington. The Blue Devils have already beaten Tottenville, Xaverian and James Madison – the potent Trojans would add to their already impressive resume.

Next: No. 2 George Washington (May 10, 4 p.m.)

4. Monsignor Farrell (11-0) (4)

Thanks to left-hander Connor Meehan, Farrell survived a scare and rallied from a four-run deficit to beat Moore Catholic Friday and inch closer to a CHSAA ‘AA’ Staten Island division title and a top four seed for the intersectional playoffs. Rival St. Joseph by the Sea is on the horizon.

Next: No. 10 St. Joseph by the Sea (May 10, 7 p.m.)

5. James Monroe (8-1) (5)

The high-powered Eagles showed they don’t have to bludgeon opposing pitching to prevail, winning a pair of tight contests over Evander Childs and Morris with clutch hitting and lockdown starting pitching. Sophomore ace Ricardo Parra continues to shine, with a 3-0 record and 1.40 ERA in league play.

Next: @ Walton (May 5, 4 p.m.)

6. Xaverian (10-2) (3)

They’re not that dominant machine as in years past, but the Clippers still have the inside track to winning yet another Brooklyn/Queens division title, especially if they beat Archbishop Molloy in Bay Ridge Wednesday. But they’ll likely have to solve Mike Auriemmo, Molloy’s ace lefty who scattered five hits and didn’t allow an earned run in a 5-4 win April 18.

Next: @ Holy Cross (May 9, 4 p.m.)

7. Archbishop Molloy (9-3) (6)

The Stanners have lost back-to-back games for the first time all season and both defeats were a result of their failure to protect a late lead. Jack Curran’s squad will have to quickly lick their wounds and take on reeling Christ the King before a showdown at Xaverian Wednesday.

Next: @ Christ the King (May 10, 4 p.m.)

8. Lehman (7-1) (8)

The Lions aren’t loaded with All-City candidates and their ace – Dymin Morillo – hardly breaks the speed limit with his fastball. Yet Lehman sits comfortable atop Bronx A West, one of the best divisions in the city, and is a title contender once again. It’s a nod to the uber-intense ways of coach Adam Droz and his focused, while not overly talented, players.

Next: @ Gompers (May 10, 4 p.m.)

9. Tottenville (11-0) (9)

Since consecutive losses to Lehman and Grand Street Campus in the prestigious Monroe Tournament, the Pirates have found themselves. They’ve reeled off five straight league victories while not allowing more than two runs in any one game and reached the finals of the always formidable Northeast Elite Clarkston South Tournament.

Next: Susan Wagner (May 9, 4 p.m.)

10. St. Joseph by the Sea (7-3) (10)

The defending CHSAA Class AA intersectional champions lost to archrival Monsignor Farrell for a second time this season, but rebounded nicely to defeat St. Peter’s on Friday. The Staten Island division title is likely out of reach, but the Vikings can get some revenge Tuesday against the Lions.

Next: @ No. 4 Monsignor Farrell (May 10, 7 p.m.)

New: None

Dropped out: None

On the bubble: All Hallows (8-3), Berkeley Carroll (9-4), Cardozo (10-0), Fordham Prep (7-4), Moore Catholic (7-4), Norman Thomas (9-2), Riverdale (12-2), South Bronx (7-3) and Telecommunications (8-3)
