Red Bulls’ Henry says he’ll play vs. Rapids

Red Bulls captain Thierry Henry’s swollen right knee isn’t 100 percent, but he said he will play tonight vs. Colorado (8 p.m., MSG).

Henry said with his team about to be decimated by Gold Cup callups, the game against the MLS Cup champs is a must-win, and he will play through whatever pain he needs to.

“We’re going to have to get three points,” he said. “[The knee’s] not quite there yet, but it is what it is. The three days helped me so I’m going to try.

“It’s a must-win game,” added Henry, whose team won’t have Dane Richards (with Jamaica) and might be without Rafa Marquez (groin). “We’re going to have to make sure we win no matter how.”

Four regulars leave for international duty after Saturday’s Vancouver game.

“[The Rapids] are missing some players, we’re going to miss some players,” Henry said. “Rafa won’t be able to play and Dane Richards is already gone. We’re going to miss three more players after that, so we need to start to grab some points. We’re going to suffer when those guys are going to play for the Gold Cup, so we need to start to win.”

The Red Bulls (4-2-4, 16 points) haven’t won since a 1-0 victory over Kansas City on April 30, a three-game winless skid — four if one includes the friendly loss in Montreal. The daunting stretch they’re about to face makes getting back to their winning ways tonight and Saturday more vital.

“We’re the team that’s going to lose more players, so we’re going to suffer the most,” Henry said. “But it doesn’t mean you’re going to have to lose games or lose points. Obviously it doesn’t help. It is what it is. We’re going to have to cope with it and make sure we can win without them.”

The Red Bulls, who have fallen behind Philadelphia in the East, want to fatten up against the Rapids and at Vancouver before the lean times. After these two games, the Red Bulls will lose five regulars for the June 4 match vs. Columbus and June 10 at New England, and it’s possible they still will be without three of them for the next three games after that.

“We have to get the points at home because those are vital,” goalkeeper Greg Sutton said. “We struggled, not getting points the last couple [of] games. We’ve got to get back on point and get these points we have at hand.”

Sutton supplanted Bouna Coundoul in Houston and is expected to start vs. the Rapids, who have just four goals in their last eight games and will be without forwards Omar Cummings and Caleb Folan.
