Cat rescued from tree in Brooklyn

Here kitty, kitty.

A fearless Prospect Park worker dramatically rescued a tubby white cat that had been trapped in a tree for days — snatching the mewing mouser with one gloved hand before scampering down to safety.

Onlookers who watched the rescue while holding their breath erupted into applause when Chris Ekstrom, an arborist with the Prospect Park Alliance, finally reached the cat about 65 feet off the ground.

Although it turned out well, Ekstrom admitted afterwards that he had feared the worst.

“I thought he was going to jump and splatter,” said Ekstrom, 45.

The kitty had been stuck in the tree in the park’s Lookout Hill section since Monday.

Every time anyone went near it, the cat scuttled higher and higher into the branches.

Ekstrom — who has experience climbing trees as part of his job — decided to try his luck at snagging the kitty.

He tied a harnessed around his waist for safety and climbed up the tree on a rope.

When he initially reached the animal, the scaredy cat immediately clambered up higher — prompting some groans from the crowd.

But Ekstrom persevered and finally grabbed the cat and shoved it in a bag.

The cat was taken to an animal rescue organization.
