Plaxico Burress set to be released from jail today

He’s going from being locked up to locked out.

Gun-fumbling wide receiver Plaxico Burress gets out of jail today, but his return to football will have to wait.

When the former Giants Super Bowl star is released after 20 months on an illegal gun charge, he will find an NFL in the midst of a labor standoff.

Unlike dogfight-felon quarterback Michael Vick, Burress may have to wait before teams can bid on his services. Burress, who turns 34 in August, plans to get back into football shape, and return to his wife and son, and a daughter born while he was in jail.

“He will play in the NFL this year,” Burress’ agent, Drew Rosenhaus, told The Associated Press.

Burress pleaded guilty to a gun charge after he accidentally shot himself in the thigh with a handgun tucked in his sweatpants in a New York City nightclub.
