Dykstra slapped with dozens of felony charges in alleged car scam: DA

Los Angeles prosecutors hit former Mets hero Lenny Dykstra with a more than a dozen felony charges today, accusing him of drug possession and faking financial records to score luxury cars.

Dykstra, 48, faces five counts of attempted grand theft auto, eight counts of filing false financial statements, four counts of identity theft, and three counts of grand theft auto.

When LAPD detectives served a search warrant at Dykstra’s home on this car case, cops allegedly found cocaine, ecstasy and human growth hormones. The DA today also charged Dykstra with three counts of possession of a controlled substance.

Dykstra, his accountant Robert Hymers, 27, and friend Christopher Gavanis, 30, were all charged in the alleged car scam. They’re set to be arraigned later today.

The co-defendants and Dykstra allegedly made up a fake business to gain credit so they could lease high-end cars.

The retired player also cited a man he claimed was a co-signer, but the third party said he never gave Dykstra permission to use his name, prosecutors said.

A lawyer for Dykstra could not be immediately reached for comment.

The hard-nosed player known as “Nails” in his playing days is already in hot water with federal prosecutors. He was indicted in May in a fraud case involving his bankruptcy.

If convicted on all the local charges, Dykstra faces up to 12 years in state prison.
