Weiner finds a friend in Charlie Rangel

Randy rep Anthony Weiner has finally found a friend.

His congressional colleague Rep. Charles Rangel — who’s been on the wrong side of his own House ethics probe — said today that things could be a lot worse for the pervy pol.

“I know one thing: He wasn’t going out with prostitutes, he wasn’t going out with little boys, he wasn’t going into men’s rooms with broad stances,” Rangel said at City Hall this morning, alluding to other Congressional sex scandals. “All of those things I understand.”

WEINER CAN’T AFFORD TO QUIT DAY JOB

“Certainly I know immoral sex when I hear it from other (House) members and no one has screamed for their resignation, so I don’t know why they’re selecting Anthony,” he said.

Rangel, who was defiant after being found guilty of 11 counts of violating House ethics rules and censured by the House last year, said there was no reason for Weiner to heed demands from fellow Democrats to quit.

“Of course not,” he said. “Not one person has given any reason for resignation.”

Weiner, a political ally of Rangel’s, was the only New York Democrat in the House to donate money from his campaign coffers to Rangel for his legal defense, as first reported in Sunday’s Post.

Rangel said, “The whole idea of resignation is something that’s hyped up by the press more than his ability to serve.”

As for Weiner’s conduct — sending lewd pictures and messages online to women — Rangel, 80, said, he hasn’t thought about it.

“I even don’t understand that type of stuff to be honest with you. But he apologizes for it. So I, like everyone else, have to assume it’s not proper conduct. But I don’t know what he did, who he offended.”
